Ingredients

1½ cups sugar

1½ teaspoons orange zest

¼ cup fresh lemon juice

1½ cups fresh orange juice

4 cups cold milk

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar and orange zest, stirring well to infuse the zest with the sugar and release the aromatic oils.

  2. Pour the fresh lemon juice and fresh orange juice into the bowl with the sugar mixture and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 2–3 minutes.

  3. Slowly pour the cold milk into the juice mixture while stirring gently until all ingredients are fully combined and the mixture is uniform.

  4. If using an ice cream maker, transfer the mixture to the machine and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a sherbet consistency, approximately 20–30 minutes. If freezing without a machine, pour the mixture into a shallow freezer-safe container and stir every 30 minutes for 3–4 hours until frozen.

  5. Serve immediately for a softer sherbet, or transfer to an airtight container and freeze for up to 2 weeks for a firmer texture.
