Pickled herring and fish roe are specialty items requiring a trip beyond the standard Charlotte chains—Harris Teeter and Kroger carry some jarred herrings, but fish roe and dill flowers will likely mean a visit to a Whole Foods or specialty seafood counter. The 10-minute claim is honest for assembly, but sourcing these ingredients adds real shopping friction for a weeknight. At $8–12 per serving when all components are sourced, this lands expensively for a four-person starter or side dish. This recipe rewards a planned weekend shop rather than a grab-and-go weeknight.
