Ingredients

3/4 cup strong, hot coffee

3 tablespoons Irish whiskey

2 teaspoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons heavy cream, whipped to soft peak stage

Directions

  1. Brew 3/4 cup of strong, hot coffee and pour it into a heat-resistant glass or Irish coffee cup.

  2. Add the 2 teaspoons of brown sugar to the hot coffee and stir until fully dissolved.

  3. Pour the 3 tablespoons of Irish whiskey into the sweetened coffee and stir well to combine.

  4. Whip the 2 tablespoons of heavy cream to soft peak stage, where the cream forms gentle peaks that just begin to curl at the tips.

  5. Carefully layer the whipped cream over the back of a warm spoon held just above the coffee's surface, allowing it to gently float on top. Serve immediately.

Grocery List Plus Editorial Staff4.5

A classic drink that hits all the marks for a Charlotte weeknight: all four ingredients are standard at any of your regular grocery chains, with no special stops required. At roughly $2 to $3 per serving depending on whiskey choice, this is a cheap indulgence. The stated five minutes is honest—brew coffee, warm the glass, add sugar and whiskey, top with barely whipped cream. The single-serving format means no leftovers to worry about, and unlike many cocktails this one actually tastes better when made with care rather than rushed.
