Ingredients
1 to 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough
12 hot dogs
1 large egg
1 tablespoon water
mustard or ketchup, for serving
Directions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Unroll the crescent dough and gently flatten it with your hands or a rolling pin until it is very thin. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough into thin, long strips, roughly ¼ inch wide.
Wrap one dough strip around the top of a hot dog, leaving the top portion (approximately 1 inch) uncovered to create the mummy's face. Continue wrapping additional strips in a crisscross pattern down the length of the hot dog, slightly overlapping each strip for the wrapped effect. Tuck the final end of dough underneath the hot dog to prevent it from unraveling during baking. Repeat with all remaining hot dogs.
Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, leaving space between each one.
In a small bowl, crack the egg and whisk it together with 1 tablespoon of water until well combined. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush this egg wash over the dough-wrapped portions of each mummy hot dog.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Using small dots of mustard or ketchup, create eyes on the uncovered face portion of each mummy. Serve warm.
