Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
pinch of salt
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Stir together until evenly distributed.
Add the softened butter and milk to the dry ingredients.
Mix gently with a wooden spoon or your fingertips until the mixture comes together into a soft, cohesive dough. Do not overmix; the dough should remain tender and slightly sticky.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and roll or pat it to approximately 1 inch thick.
Using a fluted round cutter (about 2 inches in diameter), cut the dough into individual scones and place them on a parchment-lined baking tray, leaving space between each piece.
Brush the tops of each scone lightly with a little milk for a golden finish.
Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F) for 10 minutes, until the scones are golden brown on top.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 2 minutes. Serve warm with butter and your favorite mixed fruit jam.
