Ingredients

1½ California avocados, pitted

2 black olives, cut into half-circles

1 dash cayenne pepper

2 tsp fresh cilantro, minced

1 garlic clove, minced

¼ tsp ground cumin

1 tsp fresh lime juice

15 store-bought phyllo shells, defrosted

⅛ tsp salt

3 tbsp diced tomato

Directions

  1. Halve the avocados lengthwise, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl. Using the back of a fork, mash the avocado until it reaches your desired consistency—slightly chunky or smooth, as you prefer.

  2. Add the lime juice, minced garlic, ground cumin, salt, and a dash of cayenne pepper to the mashed avocado. Stir until well combined. Taste the mixture and add more cayenne pepper if you prefer additional heat.

  3. Gently fold in the diced tomato, black olive pieces, and fresh minced cilantro until evenly distributed throughout the guacamole.

  4. Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of guacamole mixture into each phyllo shell. Top each filled shell with a black olive half-circle.

  5. Arrange the filled cups on a serving platter and serve immediately.

Every ingredient is a walk into Harris Teeter or Food Lion without a second thought: avocado, black olives, cilantro, lime, garlic, cumin, and cayenne are standard stock, and phyllo shells live in the frozen aisle where you expect them. At roughly $0.75 to $1.00 per cup, the cost tracks to three avocados (the main spend at $1.50 each) and a $4 box of phyllo that covers 30 cups, making this genuinely cheap finger food for entertaining. The 15-minute claim is honest: no cooking, just halving and mashing avocado, chopping tomato and cilantro, and spooning into pre-baked shells. These do not hold well overnight once filled—the phyllo softens and avocado oxidizes—so this is a same-night assembly, which matters if you are prepping the day before a party.
