Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef

1 onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, chopped

1 tablespoon ginger, grated

1 apple, grated

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

4 green onions, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks, until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F and no pink remains, about 5-6 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Add the diced onion to the beef and stir, cooking for 1-2 minutes until the onion begins to soften.

  3. Stir in the chopped garlic and grated ginger, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

  4. Add the grated apple, brown sugar, and soy sauce to the skillet. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

  5. Simmer the mixture for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.

  6. Remove from heat and drizzle the toasted sesame oil over the beef mixture, stirring to incorporate.

  7. Transfer to a serving dish and top with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.
