Ingredients

¼ cup fresh lime juice

2 tablespoons fish sauce

1 large garlic clove, minced

¼ red or green jalapeño, unseeded and thinly sliced crosswise

1 tablespoon packed light brown sugar

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the lime juice, fish sauce, minced garlic, sliced jalapeño, and brown sugar.

  2. Whisk the ingredients together until the brown sugar is fully dissolved and the sauce is well combined.

  3. Taste the sauce by dipping a piece of lettuce or tasting a small amount. Check for balance between heat, sourness, saltiness, and sweetness.

  4. Add more jalapeño slices if you prefer a spicier sauce, and whisk until evenly distributed.

  5. Transfer to a covered container and refrigerate. The sauce will keep for up to 2 weeks.
