Ingredients

1 large egg

1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1 pound tilapia fillets (4 fillets)

1 tablespoon butter, melted

Fresh lime or lemon, sliced (optional)

Directions

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before beginning.

  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F.

  3. In a small shallow bowl, beat together the egg, salt (if using), and black pepper until well combined.

  4. Pour the bread crumbs into another shallow bowl.

  5. Place the melted butter in a 9x13-inch baking pan and put it in the preheated oven for 1 minute to warm.

  6. Remove the pan from the oven and tilt it gently to coat the bottom evenly with butter.

  7. Pat the tilapia fillets dry with paper towels. Working with one fillet at a time, dip it into the egg mixture, coating both sides, then press it into the bread crumbs to create an even coating. Place each coated fillet in the prepared pan.

  8. Bake uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes until the fish flesh is opaque and flakes easily when tested with a fork, and the coating is golden brown.

  9. Remove from the oven and serve hot. Top with fresh lime or lemon slices if desired.
