Ingredients
1 fresh lemon
3/4 cup cold water
1 tablespoon sugar
Directions
Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a glass, making sure to extract as much juice as possible while removing any seeds.
Add the sugar to the glass with the lemon juice.
Pour the cold water into the glass with the lemon juice and sugar.
Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved and the ingredients are well combined.
Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as desired by adding more sugar or water. Serve immediately over ice if desired.
Comments
All three ingredients are stocked year-round at every Charlotte grocer—lemon, water, and sugar are pantry staples with zero friction to obtain. At roughly 30 cents per serving (one lemon, a teaspoon of sugar, water), this is genuinely cheap and honest about its 10-minute time, which includes squeezing and stirring. The single meaningful drawback is the one-serving yield, which makes it impractical for family meal planning and requires repeating the whole process if more than one person wants a drink.
