Ingredients
8 slices whole grain wheat bread
1 medium pear, washed and dried
8 teaspoons peanut butter
4 teaspoons strawberry preserves
Directions
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before beginning.
Use a flower-shaped cookie cutter to cut out a flower shape from each slice of bread. If the bread sticks to the cutter, gently push the petals out with your fingers.
Rinse the pear and pat it dry with a paper towel. Cut the pear in half lengthwise and remove the core with a small knife or melon baller.
Cut each pear half into four equal slices, then cut each slice into five smaller pieces. You will use only the center three pieces from each slice to create the petal effect; the end pieces may be discarded or enjoyed as a snack.
Spread 1 teaspoon of peanut butter evenly in a circular pattern in the center of each bread flower, covering the middle area where the petals meet.
Place three pear pieces on top of the peanut butter on each flower, positioning them so the skin is facing outward and the white flesh centers meet together in the middle, creating a petal-like appearance.
Drizzle 1/2 teaspoon of strawberry preserves into the center point where the pear pieces meet and lightly over the pear petals. Serve immediately.
