Ingredients

1 pound halloumi cheese block, cut into 1- to 1½-inch cubes

1 tablespoon neutral oil such as vegetable or canola oil

Honey or hot honey, for serving (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F. Cut the halloumi cheese block into 1- to 1½-inch cubes.

  2. Place the halloumi cubes in a bowl and drizzle with the neutral oil. Toss gently until all pieces are lightly coated.

  3. Arrange the oiled halloumi cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each piece for air circulation.

  4. Air fry for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking, until the halloumi is golden brown and crispy on the outside.

  5. Remove from the air fryer and transfer to a serving plate. Serve immediately while warm, drizzled with honey or hot honey if desired.

Halloumi is a specialty cheese that requires a trip to Harris Teeter or Kroger's international section—a real friction point for a weeknight. The recipe itself is genuinely simple and cheap once you have the ingredient (about $3 to $4 per serving for cheese alone), but the 20-minute claim misses that halloumi needs to be cut and patted dry before air frying, pushing real time closer to 25 minutes. This is a fun appetizer or side for people who already stock halloumi or have easy access, but it's not a spontaneous dinner solution for most Charlotte households.
