Ingredients

2 tbsp Double cream

150 ml Freshly brewed black coffee

50 ml Irish whiskey

¾ tsp Brown sugar

pinch Freshly grated nutmeg

Directions

  1. Pour the freshly brewed black coffee into a heatproof mug or glass. Add the Irish whiskey and brown sugar, then stir well until the sugar has completely dissolved.

  2. While the coffee mixture is being prepared, lightly whip the double cream until it reaches a soft, slightly thickened consistency but is not fully whipped.

  3. Gently pour the whipped cream over the back of a spoon onto the surface of the hot coffee to create a floating layer on top.

  4. Sprinkle a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg over the cream layer and serve immediately while hot.

All ingredients are common staples at every Charlotte grocery chain—heavy cream, coffee, whiskey, brown sugar, and nutmeg are stocked everywhere from Walmart to Harris Teeter. The cost per serving is under $2, driven only by the whiskey pour, which makes this a legitimate budget treat. The stated five minutes is honest: you brew coffee, pour whiskey and sugar, and whip cream, with no hidden prep work. This is a classic single-serve dessert drink that doesn't reheat but doesn't need to, and it's fussy enough to feel special without requiring any technique beyond basic bartending.
