Ingredients

2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Salt to taste

Black pepper to taste

2 cups water

2 teaspoons beef bouillon cubes

1 garlic clove, finely minced

3 medium carrots, sliced into rounds

3 medium potatoes, diced into 1-inch pieces

1 medium onion, chopped

1 celery stalk, sliced

1 bay leaf (optional)

1/2 teaspoon dried basil (optional)

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)

Directions

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before beginning food preparation.

  2. Place the cubed beef stew meat directly into the slow cooker.

  3. In a small bowl, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the beef and stir until all meat pieces are evenly coated with the flour mixture.

  4. Add the water, beef bouillon cubes, minced garlic, sliced carrots, diced potatoes, chopped onion, sliced celery, bay leaf, basil, and oregano to the slow cooker. Stir everything together until well combined.

  5. Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set the heat to low. Cook for 8 to 10 hours, or alternatively set to high heat and cook for 4 to 6 hours, until the beef is very tender and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F for ground beef pieces, though slow cooking ensures thorough cooking).

  6. Before serving, stir the stew thoroughly to distribute all ingredients evenly and blend the flavors.

  7. If you added a bay leaf to the stew, carefully locate and remove it before serving, as it is not meant to be eaten.
