Ingredients

1½ sticks salted butter (12 tablespoons)

¾ cup white sugar

1 cup brown sugar

3 large eggs

1 egg yolk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup cocoa powder

½ cup chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease an 8 x 8 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray and set aside. In a medium-sized pot, melt the butter over medium heat on the stovetop, stirring occasionally until completely melted, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. Remove the pot from heat. Add both the white sugar and brown sugar to the melted butter. Whisk vigorously for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and creamy with no visible lumps.

  3. Add the three whole eggs and egg yolk to the pot, incorporating one at a time and whisking well after each addition until fully combined. This prevents lumps and ensures even mixing. Stir in the vanilla extract until evenly distributed.

  4. Sift or add the cocoa powder to the mixture, then stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon just until combined—do not overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly scattered throughout the batter.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated 350°F oven for 40-45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist, fudgy crumbs still clinging to it. The brownies should not be completely clean—this indicates the desired fudgy texture. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before serving, or enjoy directly from the warm pan.
