Ingredients
6 egg yolks
1/2 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon whiskey
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup vegetable oil for frying
1/3 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the 6 egg yolks, sour cream, white sugar, vanilla extract, and whiskey. Whisk together until well blended and smooth.
Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the wet mixture, stirring and folding until a soft, workable dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but hold together.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for 2–3 minutes until smooth. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and shape each into a smooth ball.
On a lightly floured surface, roll each dough ball into a thin oval or rectangular sheet, about 1/8 inch thick. Use a knife or pastry wheel to cut the dough into decorative shapes if desired.
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or skillet to 350°F, checking the temperature with a cooking thermometer. Working in batches to avoid crowding, carefully place the pastry pieces into the hot oil.
Fry each batch for 2–3 minutes per side until the pastries are deep golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to flip and turn them as needed for even cooking. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
While still warm, generously dust the fried pastries with confectioners' sugar. Arrange on a serving platter and serve immediately.
