Ingredients

6 oz Fresh strawberries

6 leaves Fresh mint leaves

½ lime Lime juice

6 packets Non-caloric sweetener packets

3 oz Light rum

12 oz Club soda

Ice

Directions

  1. Slice the strawberries into bite-sized pieces. Place the mint leaves and sweetener packets into a cocktail shaker.

  2. Gently muddle the mint leaves against the shaker wall to bruise and release their aromatic oils without shredding them into small pieces.

  3. Add the sliced strawberries to the shaker and muddle together with the mint, pressing gently to break down the fruit and combine with the mint flavor.

  4. Pour in the fresh lime juice and stir gently to combine all ingredients.

  5. Add the light rum and stir well to incorporate.

  6. Divide the mixture evenly between two serving glasses, pouring the liquid and muddled fruit together.

  7. Top each glass with 6 oz of club soda and add ice to fill. Stir gently to combine and serve immediately.

Every ingredient is available at any Charlotte grocer—strawberries, mint, lime, and club soda are standard stock at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Walmart, and ALDI year-round, and rum is widely carried. The real issue is the 45-minute stated time, which is nonsense for a drink that requires maybe five minutes of muddling and mixing; the overstated prep will frustrate a weeknight cook. At roughly $2 per serving for quality rum and fresh berries, this is a reasonable treat rather than budget-friendly, but it's a same-night-only drink that won't reheat and works best as an occasional refresher rather than a meal solution. For what it is—a simple, accessible cocktail—it delivers honest flavor without specialty hunting, though the inflated time claim and lack of leftovers limit its practical value.
