Ingredients

5 pounds Hard-shell clams (such as littlenecks), scrubbed

1 12-ounce bottle Pale lager beer

2 halves Lemon halves, for serving

Directions

  1. Pour the pale lager into a large heavy-bottomed pot. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. Add the scrubbed clams directly to the boiling beer. Immediately cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and reduce the heat to medium.

  3. Steam the clams for 6 to 8 minutes, until the shells have fully opened. Using a slotted spoon, carefully transfer the opened clams to a large serving bowl or platter. Discard any clams that have not opened.

  4. Arrange the steamed clams on a serving platter and accompany with fresh lemon halves. Serve immediately while hot.
