Ingredients

3 ounces heavy cream

1/4 ounce simple syrup

5 ounces freshly brewed coffee

1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey

1/2 ounce simple syrup

Directions

  1. Brew 5 ounces of fresh coffee and set aside in a warm location.

  2. Pour the 3 ounces of heavy cream and 1/4 ounce of simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Remove the spring from the cocktail strainer and add it to the shaker to serve as a whisk.

  3. Shake vigorously for about one minute, moving the shaker up and down to whip the cream until it reaches a soft, fluffy consistency with light peaks.

  4. Pour the warm coffee into a serving glass, then add the 1 1/2 ounces of Irish whiskey and 1/2 ounce of simple syrup. Stir to combine.

  5. Gently top the coffee mixture with a few dollops of the whipped cream, allowing it to float on the surface.

  6. Serve immediately while hot, sipping the coffee through the cool layer of whipped cream.

Grocery List Plus Editorial Staff4.5

Every ingredient is a standard pantry or refrigerator item at any Charlotte grocery chain—heavy cream and coffee are ubiquitous, Irish whiskey is widely stocked, and simple syrup takes thirty seconds to make or buy. The cost per serving runs about $3 to $4 depending on whiskey quality, which is reasonable for a dessert drink. The stated time of three minutes is honest, though whipping cream by hand takes longer than electric (most home cooks will add five minutes for that step). This is a single-serving indulgence that tastes best made to order and does not reheat or keep.
