Ingredients

5 to 6 pounds boneless pork shoulder

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 (12-ounce) bottle or can root beer

1 (16-ounce) jar barbecue sauce

Directions

  1. Place the boneless pork shoulder in the slow cooker.

  2. Sprinkle the kosher salt evenly over the pork.

  3. Pour the entire bottle or can of root beer over the pork.

  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the pork reaches an internal temperature of 145°F and shreds easily with a fork.

  5. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and place on a cutting board. Shred the meat using two forks, pulling it apart into bite-sized pieces.

  6. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker.

  7. Pour the entire jar of barbecue sauce into the slow cooker and stir until well combined.

  8. Cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve warm.
