Ingredients

1 ripe cantaloupe

2 1/2 cups cold orange juice, divided

2 tablespoons sugar

crushed ice

Directions

  1. Wash the cantaloupe under cool running water, rubbing gently to remove any dirt. Rinse your hands with soap and warm water before handling the melon.

  2. Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the cantaloupe in half lengthwise.

  3. Scoop out all the seeds and stringy interior using a spoon. Discard the seeds and strings. Peel away the bumpy rind using a vegetable peeler or knife, discarding it.

  4. Cut the melon flesh into 1-inch cubes and transfer to a blender or food processor.

  5. Add 1/2 cup of the cold orange juice to the blender with the melon cubes. Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth and no chunks remain.

  6. Pour the cantaloupe purée into a large pitcher. Add the remaining 2 cups of cold orange juice and the sugar.

  7. Stir the mixture thoroughly for 1-2 minutes until the sugar dissolves completely and the drink is well combined.

  8. Fill serving glasses with crushed ice. Pour the cooler over the ice and serve immediately.
