Ingredients
1 bag (about 2 lbs) chicken drumettes
2 cups barbecue sauce (hickory smoke and thick & spicy recommended)
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 onion, peeled and chopped
1 tablespoon garlic powder
3 tablespoons Creole seasoning
Cooking oil spray for pan
Directions
Rinse the chicken drumettes under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder and Creole seasoning. Generously coat all sides of the drumettes with this seasoning mixture.
Preheat your oven to the broil setting on high. Lightly spray a baking sheet with cooking oil to prevent sticking.
Arrange the seasoned drumettes on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Place under the broiler and cook for 10 minutes on one side, then flip and broil for another 10 minutes until the exterior is browned and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
While the chicken is broiling, pour the barbecue sauce into a bowl and stir in the honey until well combined.
Remove the broiled drumettes from the oven and transfer them to your slow cooker. Pour the BBQ and honey mixture over the chicken, then add the chopped onion and gently stir to distribute the onions throughout the sauce.
Cover the slow cooker and set it to high heat for 2 to 2.5 hours, or on low heat for 4 to 5 hours, depending on your schedule. The chicken is ready when it is very tender and the sauce has thickened slightly. Serve hot over rice or with your favorite sides.
