Ingredients

1¾ cup All-purpose flour

½ tsp Baking soda

¾ cup Packed brown sugar

1½ cup Chocolate chips

1 large Large egg

¼ cup Granulated sugar

1 tbsp Milk

¾ cup Peanut butter

¼ tsp Salt

½ cup Unsalted butter, softened

1 tsp Vanilla extract

1 tsp Vegetable oil

White frosting or white chocolate chips, for decorating laces

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.

  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the softened butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

  3. Add the large egg, vanilla extract, milk, salt, and baking soda to the creamed mixture. Beat until well combined.

  4. Slowly add the all-purpose flour and mix on low speed until the dough just comes together.

  5. Scoop the dough into 1-tablespoon-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

  6. Gently flatten each ball with your palm to about 1/2 inch thick. Using your thumb and forefinger, pinch both ends of each flattened cookie to create a football shape.

  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until the edges just begin to brown. Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool completely on the baking sheets.

  8. Once cooled, combine the chocolate chips and vegetable oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.

  9. Transfer the melted chocolate to a piping bag or squeeze bottle with a small tip cut out. Pipe an outline around the edge of each football cookie to define the football shape, then fill in the interior with chocolate.

  10. Lightly tap the baking sheet on the counter to smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles in the chocolate coating. Place the baking sheets in the refrigerator until the chocolate is set and hardened, about 15–20 minutes.

  11. Once the chocolate has set, pipe white frosting or melted white chocolate in thin lines across the top of each cookie to resemble football laces.

  12. Store the finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

These cookies hit all the marks for a Charlotte kitchen: peanut butter is a North Carolina staple, and every ingredient is stocked year-round at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Walmart, ALDI, and Kroger. At roughly 48 cents per cookie, the cost is rock-bottom. The stated 45 minutes is honest if you're mixing and baking straight through, and 48 servings means you'll have frozen cookies for lunchboxes and snacks for weeks. The only caveat is that white frosting footballs require a piping bag and steady hand—acceptable for a special-occasion batch, but not a casual weeknight move if you're new to decorating.
