Ingredients

1 tbsp Vegetable oil

1 lb Ground beef

1 tbsp Grated fresh ginger

1 tbsp Minced garlic

3 tbsp Soy sauce

2 tbsp Agave syrup

2 tbsp Sesame oil

Kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

Cooked rice

Chopped scallion greens (optional)

Toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers and ripples but does not smoke. Add the ground beef in small clumps about 2 inches apart without breaking them up. Allow them to sit undisturbed for approximately 2 minutes until the bottoms develop a deep brown crust. Flip each clump and cook the other side for about 2 minutes until similarly caramelized. Using the flat side of a spatula or the back of a spoon, break the beef into small, uniform pieces and continue cooking until no pink remains, about 1 minute more. The internal temperature of the meat should reach 160°F.

  2. Add the grated ginger and minced garlic to the skillet and stir constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. Pour in the soy sauce and agave syrup, stirring gently and scraping the bottom of the pan to release all the caramelized bits stuck to the surface. This creates a rich, glossy glaze.

  4. Remove the skillet from heat. Drizzle in the sesame oil and stir to combine. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to your preference.

  5. Divide the cooked rice among serving bowls and top with the caramelized beef and its sauce. Garnish with your choice of scallion greens, toasted sesame seeds, or other fresh toppings if desired.
