Ingredients

1 cup green bean casserole (prepared or homemade)

2 slices cheese (cheddar, American, or similar melting cheese)

2 slices bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)

1 tablespoon butter, softened

Directions

  1. Heat a small skillet over medium-high heat for 1 minute until hot.

  2. While the skillet is heating, lay out both slices of bread on a clean work surface.

  3. Spread approximately half the softened butter on the outer top side of one slice of bread.

  4. Place one slice of cheese on the unbuttered side of that bread slice.

  5. Spread the green bean casserole evenly over the cheese on the first slice.

  6. Top with the second slice of bread, placing it with the unbuttered side facing down on top of the casserole.

  7. Spread the remaining softened butter on the outer top side of the top bread slice.

  8. Carefully place the sandwich in the hot skillet with the buttered side down, pressing gently so the second cheese slice sits against the bottom bread slice.

  9. Toast for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.

  10. Flip the sandwich carefully and cook the other side for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.

  11. Transfer to a plate and serve immediately while warm.
