Ingredients
1 Italian bread loaf
4 tablespoons Softened butter
to taste Garlic powder
2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
Preheat your broiler to high. Cut the Italian bread loaf diagonally into thin, even slices, approximately 1/2 inch thick. Arrange the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on each bread slice. Sprinkle generously with garlic powder, adjusting the amount to your taste preference.
Top each buttered and seasoned slice with shredded mozzarella cheese. Distribute the cheese evenly across all slices.
Place the baking sheet under the preheated broiler, keeping it 4-6 inches from the heat source. Broil for 2-3 minutes, watching carefully the entire time. The bread is done when the cheese is melted and bubbly with light golden browning. Remove immediately to prevent burning.
Transfer the hot garlic bread to a serving platter and serve immediately while warm.
Comments
This recipe nails the practical strengths: all four ingredients are staples at every Charlotte chain, mozzarella and butter are cheap, and 10 minutes is honest for slicing bread, buttering, and broiling. The real cost driver is the bread itself, which at 16 slices means you need a full Italian loaf at around $3–4, bringing the per-serving cost to roughly 30–35 cents, very affordable. The only friction is that it's strictly a same-night dish—garlic bread stales and doesn't reheat well—so it works best as a planned side, not a weeknight throw-together. For a quick cheese bread fix it's hard to beat.
