Ingredients
16 caramel squares, halved (such as Kraft)
4 ½ cups Cocoa Pebbles cereal
3 ¾ cups miniature marshmallows
1 ½ tablespoons unsalted butter
Nonstick cooking spray
Directions
Lightly coat an 8-inch square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
Place the butter in a large pot and melt it over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
Add the miniature marshmallows to the melted butter and stir constantly for several minutes until they are completely melted and smooth.
Remove the pot from the heat and add the cereal, stirring until all of it is well coated and evenly mixed with the marshmallow mixture.
Lightly spray your hands with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Press half of the cereal mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan in an even layer.
Arrange the halved caramel pieces in 4 horizontal rows across the pan. Position them approximately ½ inch from the top edge, then 1 inch below that, then 1 inch below that, and finally ½ inch from the bottom edge. Gently press each caramel piece into the cereal layer beneath it.
Spray your hands again and press the remaining half of the cereal mixture evenly over the caramels, sealing them inside.
Allow the treats to cool and set at room temperature for at least 1 hour, then cut into 16 equal squares and serve.
Comments
Every ingredient is a standard find at any Charlotte chain—caramel candies, cocoa cereal, marshmallows, and butter are stocked year-round at Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Walmart, and ALDI. The cost per serving runs about 40–50 cents, kept low by bulk candy and pantry staples with no premium items. The stated 45 minutes is honest for melting, mixing, and setting, though expect closer to 20–25 minutes of active work plus cooling time, which is straightforward for a weeknight. These treats are fussy in one way—they demand constant stirring over gentle heat to avoid scorching—but once set they're stable, require no reheating, and travel well, making them good for potlucks or lunchboxes despite being a single-occasion dessert with no leftovers problem.
