Ingredients

9-inch pan brownies (homemade or boxed mix, prepared according to package directions)

7 oz container marshmallow cream

1 1/2 tablespoons butter

3 cups mini marshmallows

2 1/2 cups Rice Krispies cereal

1 1/4 cups chopped Butterfinger candy bars, divided

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 tablespoon vegetable shortening

Directions

  1. Prepare and bake brownies in a 9-inch pan according to your recipe or package directions. While the hot brownies are still in the pan, immediately spread the entire container of marshmallow cream evenly over the surface using a spatula. Allow the warm brownie base to cool completely with the marshmallow layer on top.

  2. While the brownie layer cools, chop the Butterfinger candy bars into bite-sized pieces. You should have about 1 1/4 cups total; set aside 1/2 cup for topping and reserve 3/4 cup for mixing.

  3. In a large microwave-safe bowl, microwave the butter for 20 seconds until melted. Add the mini marshmallows and stir to coat with butter. Microwave for 45 seconds, then stir until smooth. If any marshmallows remain unmelted, microwave in 30-second intervals until completely smooth.

  4. Remove the marshmallow mixture from the microwave and stir in the Rice Krispies cereal until fully coated. Fold in the reserved 3/4 cup chopped Butterfinger pieces.

  5. Drop large spoonfuls of the Rice Krispies mixture over the marshmallow cream layer. Using a butter-greased hand or hand in a plastic bag, gently press and spread the mixture evenly across the marshmallow layer. Firmly press down to ensure good adhesion between layers.

  6. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and shortening. Microwave for 45 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate is completely smooth and melted.

  7. Drizzle or spread the melted chocolate evenly over the Rice Krispies layer. If desired, immediately sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup chopped Butterfinger pieces over the chocolate before it sets.

  8. Allow the bars to cool and set completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Just before serving, cut into 16 squares and enjoy.
