Ingredients

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup heavy cream, half and half, or whole milk

1/2 cup butter

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

  1. In a 2-quart saucepan, whisk together the sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder until combined. Add the cream or milk and whisk thoroughly until the mixture is completely smooth with no cocoa lumps remaining.

  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.

  3. Once boiling, add the butter and stir to incorporate. Continue to boil gently, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens, approximately 5 minutes.

  4. Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt until well combined.

  5. Allow the sauce to cool for about 5 minutes, then spoon the warm fudge sauce over ice cream or your favorite dessert.

  6. To store, transfer any leftover sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate. To reheat, microwave in 30-second intervals until warm, stirring between intervals as needed.
