Ingredients

3 large fresh mint leaves, plus 1 sprig mint for garnish

Ice

1 lime wedge

1/2 cup limeade

1/2 cup sparkling water

Directions

  1. Place the 3 fresh mint leaves into each of 2 tall glasses. Gently press and muddle the mint to release its oils and flavor—do not crush it completely.

  2. Fill each glass with ice cubes.

  3. Squeeze the lime wedge over the ice and mint in each glass, then drop the wedge into the drink.

  4. Pour 1/4 cup of limeade into each glass.

  5. Top each drink with 1/4 cup of sparkling water, stirring gently to combine.

  6. Garnish each glass with a fresh mint sprig and serve immediately.

Every ingredient is a pantry staple or impulse buy at any Charlotte grocery chain—mint grows in most gardens or costs $1 at Harris Teeter, limeade concentrate lives in the frozen aisle everywhere, and the rest you've got. The stated five minutes is honest; you're muddling mint and combining four liquids, no hidden prep. At under $1 per drink when made with concentrate, this is genuinely cheap and it reheats nothing because it's meant to be cold and fizzy right now, but that's the whole point. The only slight drag is that fresh mint can be variable in quality and some people find store-bought limeade overly sweet, though both are easy fixes—fresh lime juice costs a few cents more, and homemade syrup takes you past five minutes.
