Ingredients

1/2 pound penne pasta

1 tablespoon olive or vegetable oil

13 ounces Cajun andouille smoked sausage

1 (15-ounce) jar store-bought alfredo sauce

2 tablespoons water

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package directions until al dente, then drain and set aside.

  2. While the pasta cooks, slice the andouille sausage into 1/4-inch thick coins.

  3. Heat the olive or vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage slices and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the edges are browned and the sausage is heated through.

  4. Reduce the heat to medium. Stir in the alfredo sauce and water until combined, then add the cooked pasta to the skillet.

  5. Toss everything together until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce, about 1 to 2 minutes. Adjust consistency with additional water if needed, then serve immediately.

This is a genuinely quick weeknight win—pasta cooks in 10 minutes, sausage browns in 5, and the alfredo ties it together in a stovetop pasta sauce situation that lands in about 15 minutes once water boils. Andouille sausage is stocked at all major Charlotte chains (Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Publix, Walmart, Kroger, ALDI), and jarred alfredo sauce is universally available, so no special stops. At roughly $2 per serving once you factor in budget pasta, store-brand alfredo, and mid-range andouille, this feels like honest value for a family-friendly dish. The main caveat is that jarred alfredo tastes like jarred alfredo—perfectly edible but a step below fresh cream—and the dish doesn't reheat well since sauce thickens and pasta toughens overnight, so plan to finish it the same night.
