Ingredients

3/4 pound lean ground beef (85% lean)

1 1/2 cups water

2 cups egg noodles, uncooked

1/2 packet seasoning mix

Salt to taste, optional

Directions

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling food.

  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks, until it is no longer pink and has reached an internal temperature of 160°F (about 5-7 minutes). Drain off the excess fat using a colander or by carefully tilting the pan and spooning fat away.

  3. Pour the water into the skillet with the cooked beef. Add the uncooked egg noodles and seasoning mix. Stir all ingredients together until the noodles are coated and the seasoning is distributed evenly.

  4. Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a rolling boil.

  5. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet with a lid. Simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, or until the noodles are tender and most of the water has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  6. Taste the finished dish and add a pinch of salt if needed. Serve immediately while hot.

  7. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

This is a genuine weeknight workhorse: ground beef and egg noodles are stocked everywhere in Charlotte, the cost per serving runs under $2, and browning the meat plus boiling noodles truly does land near 35 minutes with honest timing. The catch is the seasoning mix—if you mean a packet like Lipton or McCormick, you've got it at any Food Lion or Walmart, but the sodium load is real and the flavor profile is rigid. Make or mix your own seasoning (paprika, garlic powder, cumin) and you've dodged the packet and sharpened the dish; use the packet and you've saved five minutes at the cost of a duller, saltier meal. Leftovers reheat cleanly in the microwave and taste almost as good the next day.
