Ingredients

1 medium Medium mango, peeled, pitted and chopped

1 cup Milk, divided

1 tablespoon Sugar, or to taste

pinch Ground cardamom

Chopped pistachios or nuts, for garnish (optional)

Directions

  1. Place the chopped mango and ¼ cup of milk into a blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture becomes completely smooth and there are no mango pulp chunks remaining, about 1-2 minutes.

  2. Pour the remaining ¾ cup of milk into the blender, then add the cardamom powder and 1 tablespoon sugar. Taste the mixture and adjust the sugar quantity according to the natural sweetness of your mango variety.

  3. Blend again on high speed until all ingredients are fully incorporated and the shake is uniform in color and consistency, approximately 30-45 seconds.

  4. Pour the milkshake into serving glasses.

  5. Top each serving with chopped pistachios or nuts if desired, then serve immediately while cold and frothy.

Mango and milk are reliable finds at any Charlotte grocer, but fresh cardamom pods will need a stop at Food Lion, Publix, or a specialty market—ground cardamom from the spice aisle works if you have it on hand. The ten-minute claim is honest for a blender drink, though hulling and chopping pistachios adds a couple of minutes if you're not using pre-shelled ones. At roughly $1.50 to $2.00 per serving, the cost is reasonable for a dessert shake that doubles as breakfast, and it reheats poorly but works fine made fresh on demand for two people. This is a Southern Indian staple that plays well in a Carolina summer, though mango availability drops sharply in winter.
