WASHINGTON, Sept. 09, 2026, El Eden Import Distributor Corp., a Long Island City, N.Y. firm, is recalling approximately 264 pounds of potato chip products containing chicharrón (pork cracklings) because they were produced in the Republic of Colombia, a country that is not eligible to export meat products to the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The mixed bags of potato chips containing chicharrón were imported on July 28, 2026. The following products are subject to recall [view labels]: 45-g. foil bags of “De Todito NATURAL” mixed chips with “CHICHARRÓN AMERICANO JACKS,” “Margarita,” and “NATU CHIPS.” 45-g. foil bags of “De Todito BBQ” mixed chips with “CHICHARRÓN AMERICANO JACKS,” “Margarita,” and “NatuChips.” The products subject to the recall do not bear any import marks on the labels. These items were shipped to a distributor in New Jersey and retail locations in New Jersey and Utah. The problem was discovered when FSIS received a consumer complaint regarding “De Todito” snack products containing dried plantains, potato chips, and chicharrónes, pork cracklings, imported from Colombia, which is ineligible to import any meat or poultry product into the U.S. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about illness or injury should contact a healthcare provider. FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ pantries. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
