Runner Terms
GL Plus Runner Terms
Version 1.2 · Effective 2026-09-26
What this means for you
These are the terms between you and Grocery List Plus, Inc. if you shop and deliver as a GL Plus Runner. In short: you are an independent contractor, not an employee. You choose your own days, windows and households, and you can turn down any work. You keep 100% of every delivery fee and every tip; our only charge is a flat lane pass of $2 per delivery, capped at $60 a week. You shop on our card, never your own money. Read the whole thing — it is short on purpose.
1. Who these terms are between
These terms are an agreement between you and Grocery List Plus, Inc., a North Carolina corporation ("GL Plus", "we", "us"). They apply from the moment you submit a Runner application and for as long as you hold a Runner account with us.
They cover your work as a Runner only. If you also use Grocery List Plus as a shopper, our ordinary Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy govern that, separately from these.
2. You are an independent contractor
You are an independent contractor, not an employee of GL Plus. Nothing here creates an employment relationship, a partnership, a joint venture, or an agency relationship, and you should not describe yourself as an employee of GL Plus to anyone.
- You decide whether to work at all, and when. We never assign you a shift.
- You choose which households to take, and you may decline any of them. They choose you back.
- You supply your own transport and your own equipment.
- You may work for anyone else, including anyone who competes with us, at any time.
Because you are not an employee, you do not receive employee benefits, unemployment insurance, or workers' compensation from us, and we do not withhold taxes from what we pay you.
3. Who can be a Runner
To be approved as a Runner you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be legally entitled to work as an independent contractor in the United States.
- Pass a background check and an identity check (section 4).
- If you deliver by car: hold a valid driver's licence and carry the vehicle insurance your state requires, including any coverage your insurer requires for delivery driving.
Many personal auto policies exclude delivery driving. Ask your insurer about a delivery endorsement before your first run. Keeping the right coverage is your responsibility, and you confirm you have it each time you accept work.
4. Background check and identity
Being approved depends on a background check and an identity check. The background check is run by Checkr, Inc., a consumer reporting agency — not by us. Checkr collects your information directly, on their own secure form; we never see or store your Social Security number or your date of birth.
Before any check is ordered, Checkr gives you a separate disclosure and asks for your written authorisation. You can decline — the application simply stops.
If something in the report means we cannot move forward, you have rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act: you will receive a copy of the report and a summary of those rights, and you have the opportunity to dispute anything you believe is wrong. Disputes go to Checkr, who hold the report; we cannot see or change its contents. We also run periodic re-checks while you are an active Runner.
5. Your schedule and the work you accept
You set your own availability — the ZIP codes you serve, the days and windows you want, and how many deliveries a week you are willing to take. You do not ask us for time off; you tell us, and we arrange cover.
There is a ceiling on how many deliveries and households you can carry at once. It starts lower and rises with time and reliability, and you can ask us to raise it. A ceiling is a maximum, never a quota — nothing requires you to reach it.
If you block days that already carry deliveries, we tell those households and offer the work to other Runners. Doing that inside 72 hours of a delivery is recorded on your record (section 10). Picking up someone else's released work never counts against your own ceiling.
6. What you are paid
You are paid the full delivery fee for every delivery you complete, plus 100% of any tip. We never take a percentage of either.
Pay is calculated weekly and sent by direct deposit through Stripe. Pay for a delivery locks in when the household confirms it, or 24 hours after delivery, whichever comes first. We will never charge you to reach money you have already earned, and we will never sell you early access to it.
You are paid for completed deliveries. We do not pay by the hour, for time spent waiting or travelling, or for runs you accept and do not complete.
7. What we charge you
One charge, and it is flat: the lane pass.
- $2 per delivery you complete, never more than $60 in any week.
- No deliveries in a week means no charge at all — including any week you take off.
- Your first 30 days are free.
The lane pass is deducted from your weekly payout and shown as its own line, so you always see it. It is the only thing we charge you. We do not charge for equipment, for the app, for support, or for access to your earnings.
8. The GL Plus card you shop with
You shop with a GL Plus payment card issued to you for this purpose. You never spend your own money on a household's groceries. To receive the card you must accept our card issuer's cardholder terms, which are presented to you separately.
The card may be used only to buy the items on the order you are shopping, at the stores that order names. A card is opened for a specific stop and closed when that stop is finished.
Personal use of the card is not permitted and is grounds for immediate removal. You are responsible for any charge you make that is not part of the order you were shopping, and we may recover it from what we owe you.
9. How you are expected to work
You decide how to do the work. These are the outcomes we require:
- Shop the stores the order names. Several planned stops are normal; adding stops of your own is not.
- Follow the household's substitution choices, and ask when the order says to ask.
- Deliver within the window you agreed to, and keep the household informed if something changes.
- Follow the law — including every traffic law — and treat households, store staff and other Runners with respect.
- Do the work yourself. Your approval, your account and the card you shop with are yours alone: you may not subcontract, hand off or share a run, a delivery or your account with anyone else — another Runner included — and nobody may shop or deliver in your place. Households chose you by your photo, so the person at their door must be you. If you cannot do work you accepted, release it through Time off so another Runner can take it.
10. Your record
We keep a record of your deliveries: completions, ratings, cancellations, and marks for things like cancelling inside 72 hours of a delivery. You can see your own record at any time in the Runner app and the Runner portal.
Your record is what we use when you ask for a higher limit, and what we look at if we are considering removing you. A person reviews it — we do not remove Runners automatically.
11. Your information
What we collect about you as a Runner, and what we do with it, is described in our Runner Privacy Notice. It includes your profile photo, which a person at GL Plus reviews before it goes live, your vehicle details and photo, the location of your device at the moment you mark a delivery complete, and photos you take of receipts and of completed deliveries.
Households see your first name, your photo and how you arrive — that is the point of the photo review. They never see your address, your phone number or your licence plate; we do not store licence plates at all.
12. Taxes and insurance
You are responsible for your own taxes. We do not withhold anything. If you earn enough in a year to require it, we will issue you a Form 1099 and file the corresponding report.
You are responsible for carrying whatever insurance your work and your state require. Our free Runner's Kit is guidance, not tax or legal advice — it is there to help you set things up, not to replace your own accountant or insurer.
13. Ending the relationship
You can stop at any time, for any reason, with no notice and no penalty. Tell us and we will close your account; anything you have already earned is still paid out on the normal weekly schedule.
We may suspend or end your Runner account if you break these terms, if a re-check returns something that disqualifies you, if you misuse the card, or if your record shows you are not delivering what households were promised. Except where the conduct is serious enough to require acting at once, we will tell you why.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When a change affects what you are agreeing to, we publish a new version here with a new version number and ask you to accept it before you take more work; the current version is always on this page and linked from the Runner application. We keep a record of which version you accepted and when.
15. Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
If something goes wrong, tell us first — email support@glplusinc.com and we will try to sort it out directly. Most problems are a misunderstanding about an order or a payout, and those are faster to fix by talking to us than by any other route.
